IMA-missions - History

In 1998, a group of people with a specific interest in the dream of Roberto & Norma Rodriguez and their work in Mexico organized to form International Medical Assistance.

IMA is a non-profit corporation (501C-3) that exists in the USA to aid in the work of medical missions in Mexico, and specifically the work of Fundacion Medica San Lucas, the Mexican arm of Roberto and Norma's work.

The Need in Mexico

All over Mexico (and the world) there are people who need help. Medical care that we take for granted is a luxury many cannot afford.

In 1965, God laid on the heart of Roberto and Norma Rodriguez the desire to do something about this need. It was then that they began to organize and run projects that would meet the medical, physical and spiritual needs of the poorest in their homeland - Mexico.

They found individuals who were interested and willing to come alongside to care for these people. Individuals from the US, Canada, & Mexico bring their differing talents that combine to form a “project”. Now, over thirty years later, the work continues and these projects are carried out all over the world. Thousands of people each year are helped and lives are changed.

God has also laid it on the hearts of Norma & Roberto to build a hospital in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico to have a year-round work along with the short-term projects. God provided the land and now, the construction of the warehouse, surgical suites and recovery area is completed!!!

How does IMA fit in?

We serve as an avenue for people in the United States to go and work on projects in Mexico at their own expense, and also to make donations to the cause.

Each project has a suggested donation fee that is used to cover the expenses of the participant and to administer the projects. Other donations are used to help with the construction and administration of the hospital complex as it becomes a reality.

We are excited as we see God working, and we would love to see you join us. You don’t have to be in the medical field to come. We need all kinds of helpers, and our projects are open to all, although some restrictions may apply. Applications are available upon request.
